At TEDxStPete Countdown, we champion the power of diverse thought to catalyze monumental transformation. Will every idea resonate with your current beliefs? Perhaps not, and that’s precisely the point. Our mission, deeply rooted in the TED philosophy, is to source profound insights from every corner, challenging conventional thinking and expanding your personal blueprint for success. We invite you to lean in with an open mind and a strategic ear, ready to absorb wisdom that can propel your own life and legacy forward. Discover how we select these powerful voices through our curation approach below.

TED's curation approach

TED’s mission is to discover and spread ideas that spark imagination, embrace possibility and catalyze impact. At a time of growing divide, we invite a broad range of speakers to our events to share ideas and to seek deeper understanding. We believe that it’s possible to learn something from speakers even when disagreeing with aspects of their work or beliefs, and we are committed to being a place where people with differing viewpoints can come together and participate in meaningful conversations. We will always welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek both a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others. We recognize that not everyone will agree with all of our curation decisions, which are based on our guidelines. Two important core principles guiding TED’s curation are:

Inclusion

Ideas are for everyone. They can’t be fenced off by borders, whether of geography, religion, politics or culture. And no single origin, race, gender, identity or class can claim preferential ownership over them. TED is committed to a global mindset. We seek to source ideas from everywhere and to make them widely and freely accessible. Powerful ideas, expressed and distributed with care, can bring different groups together and create a shared vision of a future worth pursuing.

Debate

Our content isn’t the final word on anything. Skeptics are welcome, and may play a key role in improving an idea or revealing its flaws. Others may find that conversation after a talk is the best path to clarity or figuring out what to do with it. We strive to provide a neutral, open space for vigorous discussion and debate both online and face to face. The tone should, of course, stay respectful. Bigotry and hate speech have no place on our platform. But constructive conversations can be a powerful antidote to division.

Angela D. Grannan

Queen of Pitch
Angela D. Grannan has been a treehugger since childhood, focussing her studies in College on Environmental Science and obtaining a career in the field in 1997. Mrs. Grannan has conducted various field studies on endangered species (both flora and fauna), watersheds, soil and groundwater contamination, air pollution, native plants, invasive species, and stormwater best management practices, to name a few. She has performed thousands of Environmental Site Assessments on gas stations, manufacturing facilities, hazardous waste facilities, scrap yards, agricultural and livestock farms, and within the processed food production industry. If it’s a business, more than likely she has inspected it to determine it’s potential risk to the natural environment. Her career shifted into the real estate industry most recently, where she brought numerous green practices into development, redevelopment, and created a tree planting program to give back to community. She is currently the President of Plant Your Roots America, a 501c3 NPO, the Broker-Owner of The GRANNAN Group, Luxury Real Estate, and has over 25 years of experience in the environmental industry. Her multi-faceted career in green consulting is as diverse as the projects and research she has been involved with in every facet of society (private, public, government, industry, retail, rural). Her experience and expertise lends itself to reducing waste, reducing pollution, increasing habitats and bio-diversity, food security, and improving bottom lines. Anywhere a sustainable approach can be found, Ms. Grannan will find it and provide education, outreach, and engagement to be sure it is duplicated. In her spare time, you will find her in her food forest, doing yoga, or paddleboarding, hiking, camping, or skiing, with her family.
